Questions about the radio
Where does the SPSLink Commander install?
In a vehicle dash or at a fixed location such as a dispatch desk or site office. It comes with a corded hand microphone and large front buttons for group, menu and quick-access functions.
Does the Commander need a repeater or a radio license?
No. It talks over 4G LTE and Wi-Fi, so there is no repeater and no FCC license. Coverage is wherever a supported cellular or Wi-Fi connection is available.
Can the Commander work with Starlink?
Yes. Wi-Fi connectivity to Starlink has been tested with the Commander, which lets a vehicle or site keep talking beyond cellular coverage. Starlink supplies the connection; the radio still needs an active SPSLink plan.
Can the Commander talk to the Trek and Go handhelds?
Yes. All SPSLink radios and the SPSLink app share one account, so vehicles, handhelds and the office are on the same group calls.
Do I need to activate the SIM?
No. Choose a plan when you order and the Commander ships with the SIM installed and already active.
